BEHAVIORS: GENERAL QUESTIONS

You’ve identified that your behaviors are your greatest concern or that your behaviors are very difficult for you to cope with.

Next, do your best to identify which type of problematic behavior is presenting you with the most difficulty. Or, identify which problematic behavior you most frequently engage in. (Click on one of the options below.)

1. I frequently avoid things that make me feel uncomfortable, anxious, or scared. (This includes avoiding people, places, animals, tasks, situations, making decisions, or asking for help.) Go to BEHAVIORS: AVOIDANCE.

2. I often can’t control my own restless behaviors. I have trouble sitting still and remaining silent. I frequently act impulsively, moving from one task to another without being able to concentrate. Plus, I often don’t complete my tasks. Go to CHECKLIST: ATTENTION-DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER.

3. I often engage in problematic behaviors in my relationships with other people. (This includes behaviors such as engaging in repetitive fights and arguments.) Go to CHECKLIST: PROBLEMATIC RELATIONSHIP PATTERNS.

4. I frequently engage in distressing habits that make my life difficult. (This includes behaviors such as constantly checking your appearance, engaging in excessive shopping, collecting useless items, taking advantage of others, or stealing.) Go to BEHAVIORS: DISTRESSING HABITS.

5. I frequently feel a pressure building inside of me that forces me to do things that are potentially harmful to myself or others. (This includes behaviors such as stealing, pulling out hair, gambling, setting fires, having sex compulsively, spending an excessive amount of time on the computer, or lashing out at others.) Go to CHECKLIST: IMPULSE CONTROL DISORDERS.

6. I often feel compelled to do something over and over again in order to relieve my anxiety, protect someone, or prevent something bad from happening. (This includes behaviors such as excessive hand washing, arranging objects in order, checking, counting, and praying.) Go to CHECKLIST: OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER.

7. I frequently engage in problematic, unhealthy eating habits. (This includes behaviors such as bingeing, purging, or restricting calories.) Go to BEHAVIORS: EATING HABITS.

8. I often engage in dangerous, self-damaging behaviors. (This includes behaviors such as repetitively pulling out hair, self-cutting, self-mutilation, excessive gambling, unsafe sex, and suicidal behaviors.) Go to BEHAVIORS: DANGEROUS.

9. I frequently use drugs or alcohol despite the problems that it causes me.Go to CHECKLIST: DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTION.

10. Because of my behaviors, I have a long history of being unable to relate well with others and it often prevents me from forming meaningful relationships. (For example, you might feel incapable of forming relationships, be afraid of being criticized, be overly dependent on others, be afraid that others will abandon you, avoid making decisions, think that other people don’t pay enough attention to you or give you the credit you deserve, be very suspicious of others, or manipulate others for your own benefit.) Go to CHECKLIST: PERSONALITY DISORDERS.

11. I sometimes see, hear, smell, or perceive things that other people can’t perceive, or I have strongly held beliefs that other people disagree with (for example, you might think that the newscaster on television is talking directly to you despite the fact that other people tell you she isn’t). Plus, I engage in some types of behavior that others might think are strange or abnormal. (This includes yelling at people in public, not bathing on a regular basis, engaging in continuous movement, or maintaining a single pose like a statute.) Go to CHECKLIST: SCHIZOPHRENIA.

12. None of these behaviors describe my problem. I’d like to explore other symptoms. Go to PRIMARY QUESTION.
