New Harbinger Publications finds international success with Buddha’s Brain.

Oakland, CA:

New Harbinger Publications is proud to share the success of its star fall 2009 title Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love & Wisdom by Rick Hanson, Ph.D., with Richard Mendius, MD. Buddha’s Brain  debuted near the top of New Harbinger Publications’ bestseller list and has stayed there in the year since, selling over 44,000 copies in its first year.

The Buddha’s Brain phenomenon has caught on worldwide as well: foreign rights director Dorothy Hall Smyk reports that in the last year she as sold the rights to Buddha’s Brain to 14 countries, including: China (both Simplified and Complex Character editions), Estonia, Germany, Japan, Korea, Poland, Spain, Thailand, and Turkey.

“The response to the book at Frankfurt and at BoodExpo America has been simply amazing,” says Smyk. “It’s rare that you have a book that appeals so strongly to so many different cultures.”

With the success of Buddha’s Brain the mid-sized New Harbinger is eagerly anticipating the October 2011 publication of Rick Hanson’s follow up book Just One Thing, a gift book sized offering also based on the principles of neuroscience and ancient meditative practices, that will show readers one small thing each of us can do on a daily or even hourly basis to make ourselves happier and more joyful.

“There is no doubt that readers are very interested in the ideas behind Buddha’s Brain, the idea that you can change your brain to achieve greater contentment, loving kindness, and inner peace,” says Julie Bennett, New Harbinger director of sales and marketing. “We are definitely looking forward to Rick’s next book.”
