WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES | THE PRESENTER | LOCATION
A One and a Half-Day Workshop in Oakland, California
September 10th (6pm-9pm) & September 11th (9am-5pm).
This one and a half day workshop offers advanced training in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). It is designed for clinicians who have experienced introductory ACT training and want to learn key in-session skills.
The workshop will begin by teaching skills on how to observe a client session mindfully as the client weaves back and forth between openness and avoidance. Then we'll focus on algorithms for using ACT processes, moment-to-moment, during the session. This is about knowing what to do next and why. Finally, we'll look at how to apply ACT to specific problems: anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, chronic pain, and interpersonal disorders. The focus will be on specific adaptations of the ACT protocol for each disorder.
The workshop will offer conceptual, experiential, and practical training. Experiential exercises will be conducted individually, in dyads, and in small groups. Exercises will all have the objective of showing how ACT specifically applies to multiple disorders
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Participants will learn how to:
- Use therapeutic mindfulness to observe and respond to client in-session functioning
- Decide on the appropriate response to anything the client says or does during the hour using the six ACT processes
- Identify and use ACT conceptualizations and specific treatments for anger, depression, anxiety, and trauma
- Apply a combination of ACT and schema therapy to disorders with maladaptive interpersonal response styles
- Learn to develop a treatment plan based on the client's level of avoidance
- Use the ACT hexaflex to find a beginning point for therapy
Workshop Location
The workshop will be held in a comfortable new conference room at New Harbinger Publications, 5720 Shattuck Ave., Oakland, CA 94609.
