Matthew McKay

New
Harbinger cofounder and publisher Matt McKay received his Ph.D.
in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional
Psychology in 1978. He is the clinical director and cofounder of
Haight Ashbury Psychological Services in San Francisco, CA, and
a psychologist in private practice specializing in the treatment
of depression and anxiety. As the author
of twenty self-help books and
acting publisher at New Harbinger,
he has a unique understanding of readers’ needs.
In
1973, when he cofounded New Harbinger, he was among the first to
recognize the need for research-based and clinically proven self-help
books for general readers. McKay’s stellar reputation in
professional circles has been instrumental in attracting first-rate
clinicians to be New Harbinger’s authors. As a practicing
psychologist, McKay has firsthand knowledge of the latest developments
in the profession and the needs of readers.
His
original vision for New Harbinger—as a resource for both general readers
and professionals looking for effective solutions to real problems—continues
to inspire and guide the direction of the company.
