In The Smart Student’s Guide to Healthy Living, college student Fred Smith teams up with his dietician mother to offer fellow students the book he wished someone had given him when he went off to the dorms. “By the end of [my] freshman year, I looked in the mirror and knew I needed help,” he says. “So I decided to write the book I needed.” The good news is that with the advice he offers in his book, first-year students can eat right and get the sleep and exercise they need to excel academically and creatively—and avoid the freshman fifteen! Practical and informative, without being preachy, the Smiths’ book offers advice on cafeteria food choices and smart snacks that can be prepared with dorm-room appliances. The authors offer tips on fitting regular exercise in to a busy class schedule and getting enough sleep without missing out on late-night fun. About the authors… Fred Smith graduated with honors in 2003 from Clayton Ridge High School. He is currently a student at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with a double major in communications and political science. For more
