Rights and Permissions

This includes, but is not limited to, the use of any text (regardless of length), chart, figure, table, image, or audio or video recording. You must request permission even if you do not intend to charge for the work in which you use the copyright-protected material. If you are at all uncertain whether you need to request permission to use New Harbinger material, we strongly recommend you do so.

Most permissions for New Harbinger books are administered by Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). You can research, request, and pay for permission to use material from New Harbinger books at their website, http://www.copyright.com. CCC can grant permission to use New Harbinger material for:

  • Reproduction in published books, serials, or electronic works
  • Photocopies
  • Electronic posting and distribution (email, intranet and Internet posting)
  • Use in printed course readers or posting on an e-reserve site for student access

Please note that ALL requests for the uses above MUST be made through CCC. New Harbinger WILL NOT accept permissions requests directly for any of these uses.

Thesis and dissertation writers and other students: properly cited, limited use of material from New Harbinger books in theses and dissertations and in academic work typically does not require permission, so long as you don't plan to publish and distribute copies of your academic work for sale (releasing your work to thesis and dissertation subscription databases intended for research, though, is fine).

Permissions requests that fall outside of the uses above or that are for New Harbinger audio or video products can be made directly to New Harbinger. We accept these requests ONLY by email. Please do not call about a permissions request until you have emailed the following information to [email protected]:

  1. The book or program title, author(s), and ISBN
  2. The exact page numbers to time codes of the excerpt you’d like to use
  3. A clear, detailed description of your intended use
  4. Your complete and correct contact information

After we receive your request, we will usually respond in about four weeks. After we evaluate your request, our permissions manager may contact you for more information.

Note that requests to translate, republish, narrate, or film complete works are requests for rights licensing and not permissions (see below for more in rights).
